Have you ever considered how fucking astonishing babies crying is?
The young of other animals don’t make noise, or if they do, barely any at all. Baby birds only start chirping when their parents come back with the food, kittens meow to their mothers because cat communication is extremely subtle and drawing your caretaker’s attention may require a sound when you have eight siblings. At this point, they can already see and walk.
But human babies? Crying is essentially the first willful action that they learn. Months before being able to move on your own, or even hold your own fucking head up, or being able to choose when and where you defecate. Before anything else, a skill more valuable than anything else, is a distress call.
A distress call specifically intended to be impossible to ignore.
Before object permanence or theory of mind, without even an understanding of what help they need, who could provide it, and whether they choose to do so, a human being is capable of expressing that there is something wrong in the state they are in, that they are powerless to correct on their own.
This is what was evolutionarily selected above silent babies that did not attract predators. This is what was selected instead of young who could instantly walk. This is what was selected as the ideal offspring for the human race. Not one that runs. Not one that hides. Not one that can fend for itself. A creature that can communicate, if only the simplest, most inherent message:
I need help.Humans are incredibly social creatures. We evolved under the reliance other humans would be there to help us.
“We evolved under the reliance that other humans would be there to help us.”
And you know what?? We consistently show up for each other. No matter how much capitalist society tries to alienate us from one another, we show the fuck up and help each other out when it comes down to it.
Communication and cooperation is inseparable from the human experience.
Asking for help is the first, most important thing you ever learn to do, so please don’t forget that friends.

I get the hate for the US and I 100% agree with it, but honestly, the complete lack of compassion non-Americans have for us is staggering.
We’re mocked for not having healthcare, for having mass shootings, for being stuck in poverty, for not having liveable wages, for literally every tragedy that hits us.
And the people mocking us don’t understand or just don’t care that these aren’t our choices. The majority of Americans are pro-gun control. The majority of Americans are pro-universal healthcare. The majority of Americans want a higher minimum wage.
But what we want doesn’t matter because our votes don’t matter. Our voting machines are rigged, we can’t take time off of work or school to vote, politicians use gerrymandering to twist things in their favor, minorities (particularly Black people) suddenly find themselves unregistered right before elections, certain groups (mainly Black men) are kept from voting by charging them with felonies, etc. Even our votes for president don’t matter because the popular vote is only symbolic; the real decision is made by the Electoral College, an organization that is purposely shrouded to prevent people from understanding what it is. We don’t even get to choose our Electoral College representatives and we sure as hell can’t control who they vote for, even if they go against the popular vote.
We have no real control over politics in this country and it is genuinely fucking terrifying.

I remember watching the behind the scenes on this show. The creator of the show said that they got so much fan mail saying this show was the most realistic hospital show.
My parents both worked in the medical profession my whole life, and when I was watching them come home, I could see echoes of what this show did. All other medical shows were so much about the drama. This one nailed it. It nailed the good, the bad, and everything in between.
Also, I read that Scrubs was more medically accurate than House, Grey’s Anatomy, and every other medical show on TV
